The Passenger Rail Alliance is the nation’s first trade association to advance the interests of intercity passenger rail service, and the industries that support passenger rail service. The primary goal of the alliance, which is based in Washington, DC, is to expand passenger rail service and increase the number of people who travel by train. As the nation’s highways and airports reach or exceed capacity in many metropolitan areas, we envision passenger rail service playing a growing role in the nation’s transportation system. The growing passenger rail network will include long distance, corridor, and regional services, operating at both conventional speeds and high/higher speeds. It will require an expanded federal role in both capital acquisition and infrastructure expansion/development whether through loans, grants, or tax credits for private entities. The alliance supports full compensation to the freight railroads for use of their physical plant and will work toward full cooperation by the host freight railroads by providing reliable, safe, and punctual service.
